Arsenal target Viktor Gyokeres destroyed Man City yesterday in Champions League. He scored a superb hattrick to stun Pep Guardiola and help Sporting claim the second place in UCL points table.
Gunners have been heavily linked with Gyokeres in the recent days. The Sweedish striker is in red hot form since last season. He is continuing to impress and making Sporting’s stance very strong. Sporting want his full €100 million release to be triggered by any interested club.
Yesterday, Gyokeres proved that he can do what he is known for against any club in the world. He scored three goals to complete a superb comeback against Man City. He now has 23 goals in 17 matches this season across all competitions.
Gyokeres against Man City
Sporting fell behind in the fourth minute when Phil Foden scored the opening goal. Later, Gyokeres was presented with golden opportunity but he failed to equalize. But, the Sweedish striker did not give up and hence was able to find the back of the net in 38th minute.
Both clubs had nothing to seperate at the half time. But in the second half, Ruben Amorim was able to get an upper hand over Pep Guardiola. Tomas Araujo scored in the 46th minute after which Sporting received a penalty. Gyokeres made no mistake in making it three for Sporting.
In the 69th minute, Haaland had a chance to pull one back from penalty spot but he missed. In the 80th minute, refree once again awarded a penalty but it was for Sporting. Gyokeres made no mistake in completing his hattrick which earned him player of the match award along with match ball.
Should Arsenal sign Gyokeres next year?
It feels like Gunners should go after the Sweedish striker. Gyokeres has already shown that he is not just a one season wonder. He has been doing it regularly and hence Arsenal should spend big on him. As of now, Sporting will not tolerate any offer less than his release clause for sure.
While speaking to SportBladet earlier, Gyokeres himself said that his release clause is very high. However, it seems like he deserves that amount of money and Premier League record goalscorer Alan Shearer feels the same. He recently said that Gyokeres has added another £40 million to his price tag.
Gyokeres is open to move for bigger challenge but a January move is very unlikely. Ruben Amorim just said that the Sweedish striker will stay at Portugal until the end of the season before making a move.
