The unbeaten run of the Gunners in the Premier League finally ended last week. As Bournemouth defeated them in a 2-0 score line on their home turf. This is a very big blow for Arteta in the title race. As fellow title contenders Liverpool and Man City will be looking forward to boost their lead in meantime.
Apart from that, Arsenal have also lost their best defender William Saliba ahead of the Liverpool game at home next weekend. As the Frenchmen was shown a straight red against the Cherries and can miss the next 3 league fixtures. But that isn’t confirmed yet. It will be a very tough next couple of games for the Gunners before the end of the month.
On the other hand, fans were not at all happy with the team’s performance at the Vitality stadium. As they only managed to put one shot on target out of their taken 6 shots. It was really a disgraceful performance as the team lacked aggression in their attack. And that is why chants of signing a striker is again in the winds around the London based club.
Gunners potential target Alexander Isak
Currently Arsenal’s first choice striker is Kai Havertz, who was given the role of a number 9 to play in the absence of injured Gabriel Jesus last season. But Havertz has adapted the role so well that the Brazilian has fallen down the pecking order in the role of a striker. The German forward has already scored 6 goals across all competitions this season. And also on the verge of equaling Arsenal legend Thierry Henry’s club record of scoring in 8 consecutive home games.
But still, fans doesn’t see him as a permanent solution for their problems up front. As Havertz still can’t guarantee them 20 or more in every season. Arsenal who were desperate to sign a striker since last season are still monitoring their options. They have made a list of some top strikers whom they can be approaching in the upcoming windows.
This list includes the likes of-
- Viktor Gyokeres (Sporting CP)
- Benjamin Sesko (RB Leipzig)
- Dusan Vlahovic (Juventus)
- Alexander Isak (Newcastle)
- Jonathan David (Lille)
- Marcus Thuram (Inter)
However, the first two names on the list will be harder task to achieve for Arsenal as many other top clubs are also in the race for them. But Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak will be a great option for the Gunners as he is a very versatile striker who is technically very good also. Isak’s style of play is similar to Real Madrid legend Karim Benzema’s. He drops down in the midfield or in the wings to link-up with the other teammates.
Isak in hurry to sign a new contract with Newcastle
According to the reports of talkSPORT, Alexander Isak is very close to sign a new contract with his current club Newcastle United. And if that happens it will be harder for the Gunners to sign the Swedish striker. The 25-year-old was linked with a move to the London based club for quite a time now. Since his days in Spain with Real Sociedad, Arsenal were monitoring Isak.
But talks between the two parties never progressed even when Isak was interested for a move to the Emirates stadium. After that he came to the Premier League in 2022 and continued his top form. Last season the Swede scored a whooping 21 league goals in 30 appearances with the Magpies.
As of now Alexander Isak has a market value of £70 million. But a new deal with Newcastle will make the 25-year-old the highest earner of the club. As per reports, he is currently earning £120,000-per-week. Along with a new deal Isak also wants to insert a release clause into his contract. So, the Gunners will have to pay a lot if they decide to sign Isak in the near future.
