Arsenal team news and possible lineup against Shakhtar Donetsk

Arsenal are set to take on Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League fixture. They will be looking to bounce back from the Premier League defeat against Bournemouth. Gunners will hope to earn all three points and gain back the top form before welcoming Liverpool this weekend.

Arsenal have a long list of injuries and some of them are set to make a comeback. Others may still take time to recover. Along with the injury news, here are some key details about the game against Shakhtar.

Arsenal vs Shakhtar Donetsk: History and recent form

Gunners have faced Shakhtar fours times until now. Both clubs have won 2 matches each and there is nothing to seperate them. Both clubs are set to face each other after 14 years. Last time they turned up face to face in 2010, where Shakhtar emerged victorious.

The match will be a home fixture for Arsenal at their prestigious Emirates stadium. If we consider the recent form, Gunners have lost just 1 out of last 5 games. Infact, they have only lost 1 game this season. In addition, they are still unbeaten in UCL and are unbeaten in last 8 home games too.

As for Shakhtar, they have lost 1, drew 1 and won 3 of their last 5 games. They are still to register a win this season in UCL. Currently, Gunners are on 13th place whereas Shakhtar are on 27th place in Champions League. Records are as per FOTMOB.

Gunners team news and possible starting lineup

Bukayo Saka and Jurrien Timber are still in doubt whereas Odegaard, Tomiyasu and Tierney are set to miss the game. Gunners may have the same backline as their one against Bournemouth. David Raya is very likely to start the match and there are very little doubts about it.

William Saliba can play the UCL match as he will be suspended against Liverpool. Hence, we are very likely to see Ben White, Saliba, Gabriel and Riccardo Calafiori in the backline this match.

Declan Rice is the only name confident to start the game. He may be used with Merino, Partey, Jorginho or we can even see Ethan Nwaneri starting the game. Other possibility is Havertz playing as attacking midfielder.

Lastly, we can see Jesus starting the game although it is not concrete. Martinelli is very likely to start in his favourable position whilst we can witness more of Raheem Sterling on the other wing.

Gunners will enter the match as favourites. They have home advantage and far better squad than Shakhtar. However, nothing is guaranteed in football and Mikel Arteta should be extra careful to not experience another heartbreak.
