Arsenal are making smart business in the recent transfer windows. They are only making the moves for a position which they find weak. Gunners only made 5 specific signings this summer. They are also not shy to let their existing stars leave. Arsenal are now set to lose two midfielders next summer and the bad news is both could leave The Emirates for free.
Arsenal may lose two midfielders for free next summer
Gunners may witness the departure of Thomas Partey and Jorginho next summer. Both of the are senior players and offer an important role in terms of experience at the club.
Partey was said to leave the club in the summer itself. But the deal never happened and he stayed at Arsenal this season. He is in his last year of contract and as per The Mirror, he can hold talks with clubs in January.
Partey earns around £200,000 per week and costed Gunners around £45 million in 2020. He has not received any contract renewal offer from Gunners and is set to depart next summer.
Jorginho who joined the club from Chelsea was handed a contract renewal but it was a short one. He is also set to leave the club at the end of the season as it is not yet certain weather Gunners will hand him another contract.
Jorginho recently started the match against Tottenham when Rice was suspended. He got mixed reviews for his performance.
What are Arsenal’s plans for midfield
Gunners were planning on using Mikel Merino, Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard in the midfield this season. Merino was set to feature as defensive midfielder but was unfortunate to receive injury after completing his move to North London.
This caused Mikel Arteta to start Thomas Partey who has had a good start to season. Odegaard is also injured and is missing some important matches.
Merino and Odegaard can soon make their return back on the pitch. Lastly, Gunners may decide to hand either one of Partey or Jorginho contract expansion. But as of now they both are set to leave for free next summer.
