Arsenal to place a bid for Santos wonderkid in January

Arsenal have started the new season on a high note under Arteta. The Gunners are yet to be beaten across all competitions so far. With 17 points on their name in 7 matches (5 wins, 2 draws) currently they are standing at the 3rd place place of the table. Below the defending champions Man City and table topper Liverpool.

However things have not been easy so far for Arteta. He had to suffer through unavailability of players due to injury from the start of the season. Key squad players like captain Ødegard, Gabriel Jesus, new signing Mikel Merino and 5 more players got injured earlier this season (some of them are still out due to injury issues).

But the Gunners managed to get past the hard times as a team together. And the title winning dream isn’t just a dream anymore as this time they seem better than before. Players like Havertz, Trossard & Saka have really stood up to contribute as much as possible to create more opportunities.

On the other hand the defensive duo of Saliba and Gabriel is always a threat for the opposition attackers. But to solidify their chances the Gunners need to sign some players in the upcoming transfer windows. And reports say that Arteta and his management team have already made a list of positions where they need reinforcements.

Gunners targets Joao Pedro Chermont

Brazilian teenagers have always been a great investment for big European clubs. As Real Madrid have got success in the recent years by signing players from the Brazilian league.

Even Chelsea have started to invest on young Brazilian teenagers like the Blancos. They have already signed the likes of Andrey Santos, Estevao Willian and others from the Brasileiro Série A. And now Arsenal is interested to sign a teenager from the streets of Brazil.

As per the reports of CaughtOffside, the Gunners are keen to sign Santos‘s Joao Pedro Chermont. The 18-year-old plays in the right back position. Chermont has already became one of the key players for Santos in the Série B. As he has made 26 appearances for the Santásticos so far and has bagged 2 goals and 4 assists as a full-back.

Though Arsenal have enough options at their right back position currently, but they will like to promote players from their u-20’s camp. The Gunners will train Chermont in their own system before promoting him to the first team squad. And if he do become a reliable option then Arsenal can cash out players like Kiwior and Tierney.

Can Gunners sign Chermont?

It is said that Chermont have a release clause worth of £58 million. But Santos would accept offers below that mark after their relegation from the Brazilian top division football. But still the lowered amount will be too much for a 18 year old 2nd division footballer.

On the other hand Arsenal are desperate to bring in a out-and-out striker asap. And there are not many top strikers in European football under the £50-60 million mark. So, that should be the first priority for the Gunners.

Rival side Chelsea are also interested in Chermont. As their right-back problem is still not fixed. Even European giants Real Madrid and Barcelona is monitoring the 18-year-old. Both of the clubs are looking for a backup options in that right side.

So, it would not be easy for Arsenal to fight for Chermont along side those sides mentioned above. But the amount of potential Chermont carries, it would not be surprising if Arsenal agrees to invest 40 or more million pounds on him. It would be interesting to see what happens in January when the winter transfer window opens.
