Arsenal are known for making some great deals in the transfer markets. They have a very good board and scouting team that support the manager. They find some great players and also take bold decision to let the stars leave who they feel are no longer of use. Gunners parted ways with many of their stars this summer either on loan or permanently. One of those star was Nuno Tavares who joined Lazio from Arsenal on loan but will join them permanently next year.
Tavares has been unstoppable since making his move away from Premier League. He is the lead assist provider in Serie A and is the only defender in the top 10 list. He has bagged 5 assists in 5 league games and has been the best player for Lazio.
Why will Arsenal regret their decision?
Gunners do have a lot of quality options available at the left back position. Their new signing Riccardo Calafiori is doing very well and making thag position his own. Except him, Arsenal also have Jurrien Timber, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Kieran Tierney and Takehiro Tomiyasu who can play as left back.
So the question arrives that why will Gunners regret their decision. It is because of the obligation-to-buy clause agreed by Arsenal. As per this clause, Lazio will pay Arsenal £7 million next year to sign Tavares permanently.
Given the top form of Tavares, his market value will be definately be way higher than £7 million next year. But Gunners still have to let him leave for agreed value due to the current deal between the two clubs. Arsenal board may regret their decision as they will feel that they could have made more money only if the clause was not agreed.
