Arsenal are keen to sign Nico Williams who has been their long term target. David Ornstein has now provided some major updates about the situation.
Gunners were keen to sign Nico Williams in summer after monitoring him in Euro 2024. They were joined by Barcelona in the race that time. However, none of these clubs were able to sign the 22 year old.
Now, Barca have given up on Williams but Arsenal are still keen to sign him. They are linked with the 22 year old this month but it is believed that the move can most likely happen in summer.
What does Ornstein has to say about Arsenal and Nico Williams?
Firstly, Ornstein said that Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta loves Nico Williams. He added that the Spanish boss admires the 22 year old from long time and would have liked to sign him in the past. In addition, he said that Arteta now wants to sign him this month but can most likely miss out.
According to Ornstein, Gunners can miss out on Williams due to financial reasons. The 22 year old has €58 million release clause and it fluctuates with inflation. In addition, the winger earns a really good salary and will demand even more if he moves to Premier League.
Later, Ornstein opend up about the 22 year old’s willingness to move away from Athletic Club. As per him, Williams is not pushing for an away move. In addition, Ornstein said that Williams is settled at Spain at the moment which makes move away from Athletic Club even hard.
Lastly, Ornstein said that the player’s willingness can change in summer. Hence, this seems more of a summer move than a move this month. As of now, it seems that Arsenal will miss out on Williams this month but can hope to sign him in summer.
