Arsenal left-back Nuno Tavares has joined Lazio on a season-long loan after the completion of the transfer deal.
Nuno Tavares is leaving Arsenal on loan! Lazio has officially signed Nuno Tavares on a loan transfer from Arsenal with a clause to buy if certain targets are achieved this season. The reports indicate the deal to be at as high as €8 million.
Arsenal is looking to reshape the team this summer. We will see many players leave the side who don’t fit Arteta’s course of action for the upcoming title challenge. Arsenal already came agonizingly close to clinching the title last season losing out to rivals Man City by just 2 points. This season Arteta and co will try to keep everything in place to get the silverware back to Emirates.
For several weeks now, the Biancocelesti have been searching for a new left-back to replace Elseid Hysaj and Luca Pellegrini. The duo doesn’t seem to fit the needs of Marco Baroni’s new team.
Tavares to start new journey away from Arsenal
Tavares arrived in the Emirates from Benfica three years ago – a choice made by Edu. However, his special style of chaos didn’t click with Arteta’s style of precise and disciplined football.
Well to be fair, Tavares isn’t the only left-back who seems to struggle in the new schemes of Arsenal. Ever since the arrival of Oleksandr Zinchenko along with his inverted movement and passing range, the things in the camp and among the fans have changed. And playing like that is proving difficult to the likes of both Tavares and Kieran Tierney.
Regardless, now things are not looking that favorable for Zinchenko either with the Gunners side in talks for Italian defender Riccardo Calafiori. This shows that the Arsenal gameplay is under constant change under Arteta.

After spending time in Portugal and France (Marseille), followed by a year at Nottingham Forest, this move to Serie A will surely bring new experiences in his career.
He was always considered a low-risk option taking his age and price paid (which is comparable to what Arsenal will earn from Lazio) into account. Moreover, a sell-on clause will ensure Arsenal makes more profit in the future.
Injury haunts Nuno’s arrival at Lazio
Nuno Tavares wouldn’t have expected such a start at Lazio. After arriving, he sustained energy within 20 minutes.
Nuno was placed straight into the starting XI of a friendly match against Trapani by coach Marco Baroni. However, this didn’t end well as we saw the 24 year old limping out with an injury after only 20 minutes of play.
Reportedly, the left back suffered an injury to the flexor of his left thigh. We saw him going off the field on the bench. There he sat with an ice pack strapped against his leg.
Luca Pellegrini came in to replace him. It will be intriguing to see how long will Tavares be out of action. Whether his injury is that serious and will affect his game time.

We hope this doesn’t become a serious issue as the Portuguese have had a history with injuries. This affected his performance at Nottingham Forest on loan last season too. Earlier, a muscular problem saw him sitting out for a month in February 2024.
Tavares is Arsenal’s second senior departure of the summer, with midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga joining Sevilla on a season-long loan deal.
Lastly, we wish Tavares the best of luck for the new chapter in his football career.
