Arsenal transfer window recap and Arteta’s future plans

Arsenal finished the January transfer window without making any new signings. They were very quiet throught the window and here is the recap about the window with the future plans.

Gunners entered the window with a hope of signing some attacking players. They were specifically looking at winger and a striker in order to improve their final third. They had many top players on their radar and were linked very heavily with moves.

However, Gunners failed to advance in the pursuit of any of their targets. It proved too hard for them to land their top targets due to being in the middle of the season. The only offer made from North London club was for Ollie Watkins.

The Athletic have reported that Gunners were presented with a chance to sign Watkins. The 29 year old striker said publicly that he wants to play for Gunners as it was his favourite club from childhood. Aston Villa were demanding around £60 million for Watkins.

However, Arsenal were ready to pay only £40 million for the 29 year old. They were said to level up their interest after having their initial bid rejected. But, they never really progressed second time and the deal ended in failure.

Later, Gunners were handed a chance to recall Fabio Vieira back from loan. He could have played in place of Bukayo Saka until his recovery. But, the North London club opted against calling him back.

Who does Arteta want in summer window

Arsenal are expected to have a very busy summer window. They will very likely welcome new striker, winger and midfielder at the same time. As for midfielder, Martin Zubimendi remains their top target whereas Benjamin Sesko is the top target for the striker position.

Now, Football Transfers have reported that Nico Williams is the top target for the winger position. Arteta admirers the 22 year old and even tried to sign him in summer. The deal failed in summer but Gunners are unwilling to give up on him just yet.
