Arsenal vs Leicester City: Premier League takes action

Arsenal vs Leicester City was a controversial match in the Premier League last month. The Gunners took advantage of dropped points from Manchester City. Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United fought hard with the title holders and ended the match in a draw.

Arsenal are currently in the third position of the Premier League table with 17 points. They sit just below their title rivals Manchester City. Leicester City sit in the 15 positions of the table with six points. The referee of the match Sam Barrot received heavy criticism because of his refereeing decisions in the match.

Leicester City coach Steve Cooper was fuming about decisions made by Sam Barrot in the match. Officials of the Premier League decided to drop Barrot for a week after Leicester’s boss slammed him for referring decisions.

Why was Steve Cooper angry with the referee?

Arsenal and Leicester City clashed on 28 September. This was one of the most intense matches in the Premier League this season. Sam Barrot, the match referee made some controversial decisions that are under heavy criticism.

Leicester City coach Steve Copper expressed his disappointment on the decisions made by the match referee. In the post-match interview, he said-

“I don’t want to make headlines around the referee”.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta was not a fan of the choices made by the match referee. Arsenal faced off against Leicester City on 28th September. The coach’s anger was quite visible in the dugout area of the Gunners.

In the second half a player not wearing red entered the pitch, which delayed the game. The intervention delayed the game for quite some time, but the match referee remained unfazed.

Another instance was when a quick throw-in was being taken in by Gabriel Martinelli. The ball went out of the line and was handed to Martinelli by Arteta. Leicester City’s player James Justin got in the way and interrupted the throw-in.

The match ended in Arsenal’s favor but both sides were not happy with the refereeing decisions in the game. Premier League officials decided to remove Sam Barrot from refereeing any match for a week post this match’s controversy. Barrot returns to his duties after being laid off for a week.
