Arsenal vs Liverpool- match preview & expected lineups

The Gunners will host Liverpool at the Emirates in the Premier League this Sunday. It will be one of the biggest matches of the season. As this fixture can potentially decide the hopes of both the sides silverware dream.

As of now both of the elite English clubs are within the top 4 spot in the Premier League standings. While the Reds are at the 1st spot with 21 points (7 wins, 1 loss) on their name in 8 games. Under the new manager Arne Slot, Liverpool have been in superb form so far. Their only defeat of the season came against Nottingham Forest in the match day 4 of the league campaign.

On the other hand, despite of a good start of the season, the Gunners have stumbled a little bit on their way in the last couple of weeks. Injuries have costed Arsenal some key players so far. As of now, Arteta’s side are at the 3rd place in the league table with 17 points on their name in 8 games (5 wins, 2 draws & a loss). Trailing by 3 points from the second placed Man City and 4 by the table toppers Liverpool.

Liverpool Recent Form:

The Reds have been in superb form ever since they dropped points against Nottingham, last month. Winning all the played 8 games across all competitions. Their most recent victory came against RB Leipzig in the UCL group stage match last week. Darwin Nunez scored the one and only winning goal, that put the Reds at the 2nd spot in the new UCL league format.

In the Premier League, the Reds also stood victorious against Chelsea at the Anfield last weekend. Goals from Salah and Jones helped Liverpool to reclaim their 1st position after City’s win over the Wolves.

Arsenal recent form:

Arsenal have been disappointing in the last couple of matches across all competitions. Though they won their most recent game against Shakhtar Donetsk in the matchday 3 of UCL, the fans still weren’t happy with the performance. As the winning goal which was the one and only goal of the match was registered as an own goal from the opposition goalkeeper.

Meanwhile, the Gunners received a heavy blow in the Premier League’s title race last weekend when Bournemouth defeated them in a 2-0 score line at the Vitality Stadium. After Saliba got send off, the Cherries took full advantage of the 10 men Arsenal side. Arteta will be looking forward to close in the gap between the the top 2 by defeating Liverpool this weekend.

Squad update

While captain Martin Odegard is still injured, Arsenal fans will not be able to stay calm about the situation right now. After the suspension of Saliba ahead of the game due to a red card offence against the cherries, reports of the Standard says, star player Saka can also miss the match alongside fullback Jurrien Timber. Arteta was asked about Saka’s availability against Liverpool in pre-match press conference before the Shakhtar game last week. But the Spaniard said that they are not sure yet. Riccardo Calafiori’s fitness can also be a concern, but it is expected that the Italian will get back in time.

On the other hand, Arne Slot has confirmed that Diogo Jota will miss out after the injury he took against the Blues last weekend. But the good news for the Liverpool fans is, Alisson Becker is expected to be back in the starting xi. Even Federico Chiesa is back from injury and can appear from the bench later in the game.
