Arsenal and Man City had a really intense showdown at the Etihad. The players seem to have go at each other and it was even more ugly after the match. The both clubs seem to have revived the rivalry we used to see in the Barclays Premier League.
Over the years, English football fans have seen some of the most intense rivalries. Man United and Arsenal always had heated games when they were managed by Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger. Arsene Wenger also had tough encounters with Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea.
Later United, Chelsea and Arsenal had a rough patch and only Liverpool and City were left as the best English teams. They shared the rivalry for League title over the past few years. But, it was never intense as both Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp have high respect for each other. In addition, their players also respected each other.
Arsenal – Man City clash revives classic Premier League era
It seems like we may witness an intense rivalry in England after a very long time. The latest Gunners and City clash suggest that the Barclays days are back.
Firstly, Rodri said at the end of last season that Gunners did not try enough to win the Premier League. As a result he was hunted by Arsenal players since the start of match. Later, he left the pitch injured in just 21 minutes. David Ornstein confirmed on The Athletic that Rodri will be absent for a long time.
After Rodri left the pitch, Gunners made an amazing comeback. But then they were reduced to 10 men at the end of first half. Arsenal took a defensive approach in the second hald and were very close to snatch a win against Man City. But, they feel short as John Stones equalized for City late in the additional time.
After the end of match, Erling Haaland was seen arguing with Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta. He was then confronted by Gabriel Jesus to whom also Haaland spoke in harsh manner. Later he was also seen speaking rudely with 17 year old Arsenal talent Lewis-Skelly.
Earlier in the match Haaland was seen in a heated argument with Gabriel Magalhaes. He even throwed ball at back of Gabriel’s head after Stones scored the equalizer. He also pushed Thomas Partey after the restart.
Lastly, Bernardo Silva had some harsh words for Arsenal. He criticized the tactics used by Mikel Arteta and said that only one team came to play football. Arsenal fans are not happy with the Man City players and are looking forward to welcome them at The Emirates. It seems like we are finally on the way to witness the old school Premier League this season.
