Arsenal and PSG faced off each other on match day 2 of the UEFA Champions League. The Gunners came out top against the Parisian club with a relatively easy win.
Mikel Arteta saw his men engaging in a full attacking play and impressive defensive performance. The final scoreline of the match was 2-0. The goalscorers for Arsenal were Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka. These two players were clinical in finishing the chances that they got.
The French club were leading the possession during the first half. Nuno Mendes and Achraf Hakimi took the first chance from PSG but were denied by an impressive save by David Raya. They were less threatful on the ball than their opponents and lacked connection.
The Premier League giants however were more clinical on the ball. Arsenal won almost all their duels and maintained better possession in the second half. The gunner midfield was the backbone of Arsenal’s attacking and playmaking tactics.
Arsenal capitalised on demonstrating their superior setpieces. Bukayo Saka was the main man that handled these set pieces. The Gunners had some chances to add to their lead but were stopped by PSG keeper Donnarumma. Gabriel Martinelli had two big shots on target but was denied by the PSG goalkeeper.
Paris Saint-Germain has a squad full of youthful players. Arsenal’s experienced lineups simply outmatched these youngsters. The Gunners were short of some players due to injury but it did not seem to be a problem for the team. PSG omitting Ousmane Dembele from the team turned to be a mistake for the Paris Saint-Germain.
Arsenal were too good for the Parisian club
Mikel Arteta would be well satisfied by his team’s performance on match day. Arsenal registered a seemingly easy 2-0 victory over PSG.
Gunners hosted her opponents at the Emirates stadium. The visitors had a dominant possession in the first half. They were unable to finish some chances that they had.
The first goal for Arsenal came in the 20th minute. Leandro Trossard set up a beautiful freekick which was guided towards the goal by Kai Havertz. A helpless Donnarumma was left stranded with Havertz as the German remained unmarked as the cross came in towards him.
Bukayo Saka scored the second goal. The youngster was clinical in constructing set pieces for the team. Saka got his chance in the 35th minute. A dangerous cross from the 23-year-old was directed towards goal from a well-directed free kick.
There were many more chances created by Arsenal which could have added to their lead. The absence of Gunners captain Martin Odegaard was felt but other players did their best to fill the gaps. Leandro Trosaard and Thomas Partey did create a spark in the Arsenal midfield.
There were still some points that Arteta will want to focus on ahead of upcoming matches. There was a lack of a killer instinct in the attacking side of the team as they missed some big chances. Arteta will also want to focus on the defensive setup. the manager would be more than happy with the performance his team displayed.
PSG Boss looks to take on the blame for the loss
Arsenal defeated Paris Saint-Germain at the Etihad Stadium. The English club registered a 2-0 victory over the French club. PSG did have a 65 per cent possession but failed to convert their chances into goals.
PSG boss came forward and took responsibility for his team’s loss against the Gunners according to HayersTV. It was a stinging for his side as they were outmatched by Arsenal’s tactics. While talking in the post-match interview Luis Enrique said-
“I’m responsible for the defeat. Their defenders anticipated our forwards and our forwards. Our forwards were unable to figure out their defenders”.
Paris Saint-Germain star forward had also not travelled with the team to London. The Frenchman missed out on the squad due to disciplinary reasons. This came back to hurt PSG as their team lacked serious attacking capabilities.
The French club had 10 shots with only two shots on target. Arsenal’s David Raya was exceptional as his goalkeeping prowess kept out PSG. Gunners attempted 6 shots with five shots on target. Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka converted two of these chances into goals.
Arsenal currently sit on the 13th and PSG in the 21st position of the Champions League table. Both these clubs will have to play good football to get a chance to lift the European silverware.
