Arsenal were extremely close to sign new Man City signing

Arsenal were extremely close to sign one new Manchester City signing. However, they were unable to proceed with the deal due to certain reasons.

The star in question here is Vitor Reis who recently signed for Man City. Fabrizio Romano has recently confirmed the deal and said that Reis has signed the contract. He added that the Brazilian passed the medical tests and official statement will be passed later this week.

Reis is 19 years old Brazilian player who played for Palmeiras. He played 22 games in the 2024 season and scored 2 goals. Reis plays as centre back and has played 13 games for Brazil under 17 team so far. The Brazilian club will receive as much as £33.8 million from City.

Arsenal were extremely close to sign Vitor Reis

Gunnerblog have reported that the North London club were in no rush to sign defender. But, they had still kept tabs on Vitor Reis. The 19 year old was being looked upon as player with huge potential by the English giants.

Reis was viewed as future superstar the same way William Saliba was being viewed some years ago. The reports further stated that Gunners believed they were in strong position to land Reis. They were already engaged in the work but other priorities arrived which resulted in failure of the deal.

The North London club is in desperate need to sign attacking players. The defence is not the problem and hence attacking signings were being labelled as priority. Maybe that is the reason behind the club ending the pursuit of Reis.

As of now, Mikel Arteta has a good squad depth in the defence. However, they may need some signings in the future. Jakub Kiwior is currently linked with exit which may feel as a big loss. Arsenal should keep open eye when it comes to improvement in the backline despite it not being a priority right now.
