Arthur Melo is currently flying to England after the midfielder has agreed on personal terms with a Premier League club. This comes as a shock on transfer deadline day as Fabrizio Romano reports. The Premier League club is none other than Liverpool. Klopp’s side offered Arthur a 1-year contract, most probably a loan deal. Juventus were also keen to get the Brazilian off the squad with the Bianconeri falling out with Arthur. The former Barcelona man will now be one of the mainstays this season for Liverpool who are dealing with injuries.
The transfer window this season did not disappoint. Arthur’s move to Liverpool was also completed in the last hours of the window. Juventus and Liverpool had to sort out the contractual stuff pretty fast. Arthur was flying to London for the medical tests scheduled. Thiago’s injury was a big setback for Liverpool who are missing depth and technicality in their current midfield. Jordan Henderson and James Milner do not provide the spark that they need. Jurgen Klopp gave the thumbs up for Arthur coming to Anfield. with no other option left for them.
Arthur had a tough time at Juventus. The midfielder arrived in Turin after a swap deal between Barcelona and the Bianconeri. Arthur was not at all happy with the move to Italy but was left with no choice. Injuries and discontinuity were the main reasons why Arthur never succeeded at Juventus. He was not trusted much by any manager and played a bench role at the club. The player touted to be the ‘ Next Xavi’ with undeniable potential was reduced to nothing but a benchwarmer.
Can Liverpool turn the Tables?
Liverpool have had a rough start to their season. The Reds have drawn 4 of their first 6 premier league games. They look far from convincing at the moment and do not look like a side that can challenge for titles. The quality is surely there in the team. But injuries and poor squad depth have hit them. That’s why Jurgen Klopp wanted new midfielders and defenders at the club but could only get Carvalho and Darwin Nunez.
They lost out to Sadio Mane who was one of the most influential players in the squad. The Senegalese made the move to Bayern Munich this summer. Arthur Melo comes in as a replacement for Thiago Alcantara who is now going to be out for 3-4 months. A quality player like him injured makes it very difficult for Liverpool to control the game. They have been very underwhelming in the opening stages of this season. Maybe Arthur can be the key to unlocking the team’s potential.
