As Roma seems to have been reborn under Jose Mourinho. The Italians won the UEFA Conference league last season which was a rare silverware in recent history. They are not looking to bolster their squad even more to make the Top 4 a possibility. Real Madrid’s Spanish right winger Marco Asensio is identified as a potential Right winger for Roma. Nicolo Zaniolo is not willing to settle for a long-term future at Roma and might depart very soon from the capital.
The three-time UCL winner is a high-priority target for Roma as they look to fill up their right-wing spot. This comes a month after Asensio was rumored to move to Old Trafford. But the move was not possible even after contacts between Jorge Mendes and Manchester United. A figure of over $60 million is excessive to get a guy who had just started about half the games for Real Madrid and scored just 10 times in La Liga.
Jose Mourinho is a big fan of Asensio who is surplus to the needs of Real Madrid. But Roma are not the only ones who want Asensio. Ac Milan have pursued him for so long but have not come to any conclusion. Roma have already got Paulo Dybala in their ranks but Mourinho wants to strengthen the squad even more. Asensio, a multiple-time UCL winner will bring immense quality and experience, despite still being young.
Asensio and his current situation
Asensio’s current deal with the Los Blancos runs out in 2023 and a new 4-year deal worth around $7 million per annum was offered to his agent, Jorge Mendes. The deal, along with the possibility of leaving the Spanish capital are equally likely to go through as the winger looks for more continuity in his game, which he just has not been able to get this season at Real Madrid.
Still, his goal-scoring threat has just about kept him in Lucho’s Spanish squad for the UEFA Nations League this year. Reports of tension between him and Carlo Ancelotti have pushed him further back in the pecking order. The latter prefers Rodrygo for the Right-wing over Asensio. This flashes one of the main reasons why Asensio has not been able to perform consistently. Injuries have also affected his market value quite a bit and made clubs think twice before investing in him.
