Table Toppers ATK Mohun Bagan FC(ATKMBFC) will take on current Indian Super League champions Mumbai City FC in what is a repeat of last season’s final. Both teams headed into the competition as the favorites after making it to the final last year.
ATKMBFC has started their season with a bang. They brushed aside Kerala Blasters with a 4-2 victory and then completely blew away SC East Bengal with a 3-0 victory in the Bengal derby. Meanwhile. Mumbai has had contrasting performances in the two matches that have been played by them. Having started the season with a solid 3-0 win over FC Goa, they failed to build momentum as Hyderabad FC caused an upset against them by winning 3-1.
Irrespective of their starts, this clash is a mouthwatering prospect for the fans. Both teams finished level on 40 points last season. They sat comfortably as the top 2 with a 7 point gap to the third-placed NEUFC.
ATK MOHUN BAGAN FC
After two spectacular wins, the Mariners will look to continue their hot run of form and make it 3 out of 3 wins for them. It is an understatement to say that the players will look to seek revenge against Mumbai after losing out to them in the final.
They have unfinished business against Mumbai City FC and will head into the fixture with memories of a narrow defeat in last year’s final. Don’t be surprised if ATKMBFC come out with all guns blazing.
With a total of six points in their bag, the Mariners sit at the top of the ISL table now and looking forward to another pulsating fixture against Mumbai City FC.
MUMBAI CITY FC
After a commanding 3-0 win over FC Goa, a great upset was caused by Hyderabad FC when they won 3-1 against the islanders. Even though it’s early, the Islanders would not want ATKMBFC to build a huge gap between them. A defeat will see them fall 6 points behind ATKMBFC only after the third match.
Surely, they cannot afford to let ATKMBFC run away with the top spot. A win would put them level with the Mariners and make the table interesting.
