ATK Mohun Bagan take on an in-form Bengaluru FC side in Indian Super League fixture on Monday at the Fatorda Stadium.
Mohun Bagan were superb in the opening stages of this Indian Super League season, winning the opening three games. But they dropped 4 points in two games against Jamshedpur FC and Hyderabad FC. They are currently 3 points behind Mumbai City FC at second with a game in hand.
On the other hand, Bengaluru are unbeaten in the league. They won three and drawn three and are currently at third, one point behind their opponents.
ATK Mohun Bagan vs Bengaluru FC Preview:
The Mariners won their last game against FC Goa via a late Roy Krishna penalty. They are yet to score in the first half of any match they played this season. Antonio Habas’s side have scored 7 goals this season, with Roy Krishna hitting five of them.
Bengaluru are full of confidence after their back to back wins in the league. They will look to extend their unbeaten run and solidify their place in the top 4 in the league. However, it won’t be easy against a strong Mohun Bagan side.
Mohun Bagan has conceded only 3 goals this season, but are yet to concede from open play. Bengaluru scored 11 goals and are the joint top scorers of the ISL. Captain Sunil Chhetri and Brazilian winger Cleiton Silva are their top scorers with three goals each. This certainly makes the clash more exciting.
Kolkata side head coach Habas showed respect to their opponents and warned the players that it will be a very difficult game for the Mariners.
“They have competitive players and are a very strong opponent for us. I know that the match between Bengaluru and ATK Mohun Bagan is a very important match. We respect the opponents and the 90 minutes will decide whether we get the three points”– Habas
Bengaluru head coach Carles Cuadrat said that his side has been playing well. The Spaniard also mentioned the need for the protection of players from the referees as physical challenges are causing more injuries now.
We also, after five games in 21 days, are going to get some fresh legs. The team is playing well but I also think that we need to go in for some protection and play some players with less minutes, so that we can be tough from the first moment of the game,”– Carles Cuadrat
Mohun Bagan vs Bengaluru Team News:
The Kolkata giants will miss long-term absentee Michael Soosairaj. Tiri was injured but made a return and played well against FC Goa. Javi Hernandez may return from injury but is doubtful to feature on Monday. Hence, Habas has no significant injury issues in the squad.
Ashique Kuruniyan will be out for quite some time for Bengaluru. He suffered an injury in their last game. Goa head coach also has everyone else fit in the team.
Habas’s side need more creativity in the middle and David Williams playing well in the last game is a good sign. Their defence looks solid. Pronay Halder and Carl McHugh also played some good football in this tournament. McHugh is in terrific form and was the hero of the match last time.
Bengaluru side has some star players. Skipper Sunil Chhetri is their top scorer with three goals and recently he became the first Indian to register 50 goal contributions in the ISL. Gurpreet Singh has been solid at goal with Pratik Chaudhari and Juanan also defending really well. Experienced Harmanjot has also been a key player for the 2019 ISL champions and Cleiton Silva has scored with all three shots on target.
“Bengaluru is a strong team. For us, three points are the same as in other matches but I know that Bengaluru vs ATK Mohun Bagan is an important match. We respect the opponent and 90 minutes will decide the match”– Habas
“Habas’ team was champion for a reason. They know how to defend and how to be dangerous in their attacks. We have to create enough chances to score because they are very good defensively, they have conceded the fewest goals so far. They employ a very good defensive structure and we will try to beat them”– Carles Cuadrat
