After a delightful start against Kerala Blasters, ATK Mohun Bagan face arch-rivals SC East Bengal in their 2nd match on 27th November in the Hero ISL 2021-22 season. The two Bengal giants face off against each other in an epic duel at the Tilak Maidan.
East Bengal were held on to a 1-1 draw against Jamshedpur in their opening match. Whereas, the Mariners are keen on maintaining their form after a 4-2 win against the Blasters. The Reds and Golds had to sign the majority of their new players in a hurry and are, unfortunately, less prepared as compared to their rivals.
However, it could be a cracker of a match with two Spanish coaches – Antonio Habas of ATKMB locking horns with Manolo Diaz of SCEB. After failing to register a win against their rivals twice last season in the Indian Super League, will the Torchbearers be successful in their third attempt?
ATK Mohun Bagan
After surrendering the ISL title and the Winners shield to Mumbai City FC, ATK Mohun Bagan have improved considerably. Despite losing 6-0 to Nasaf in the AFC Cup inter-zone semis, the Mariners were dominant in the group stages thanks to their energetic new signings. Head coach Habas have been successful in building an almost-unbeatable team and would be hoping for yet another derby delight!
SC East Bengal
A late start to their pre-season preparations and emergency signings might make East Bengal an easy side to play against. Habas might prefer an attacking style of football whereas Manolo Diaz is keen on the crisp passes and precise movement of the ball coupled with possession. It would be an eye-catching encounter as both the teams are balanced despite the Mariners having a bit more experience as compared to their rivals.

None of the players are injured and Habas would be happy about the progress of his players. Hugo Boumous and Liston Colaco have been the standout performers in the past few matches and would be hungry for more goals. David Williams and Roy Krishna supply the goals upfront while Amrinder Singh acts as a leader of the defence.
The Torchbearers have made some sparkling signings most notably, their key man in defence, Arindam Bhattacharya. Arindam joined the Mariners after the latter roped in Amrinder Singh from Mumbai and would be keen on creating an impact for his new team! The emergence of Antonio Perosovic made things difficult for Jamshedpur in their opening match.
Antonio Habas would be fielding his new-look 4-3-3 formation. The predicted lineup for ATK Mohun Bagan could be:
Amrinder Singh (GK); DF – Subasish Bose, Carl MgHugh, Deepak Tangri and Prabir Das; MF – Joni Kauko, Lenny Rodriguez, Hugo Boumous; FW – Liston Colaco, Roy Krishna and Manvir Singh.
While, East Bengal predicted lineup would be:
Arindam Bhattacharya (GK); DF – Hira Mondal, Franjo Prce, Joyner Lourenco and Mohammed Rafique; MF – Bikash Jairu, Wahengbam Angousana, Amir Dervisevic and Jackichand Singh; FW – Antonio Perosevic and Daniel Chima Chukwu.
ATK Mohun Bagan 3 – 4 SC East Bengal.
