Atletico Madrid are reportedly interested in Barcelona midfielder Riqui Puig. The 21-year-old central midfielder is currently facing a lack of playing time at the moment. He was one of the stars when Quique Setien was in charge as the Barca coach.
Since the appointment of Ronald Koeman as the new head coach, Puig has been left out of the starting 11 multiple times. He has been a star man for the Blaugranas in the Copa del Rey and Spanish Super Cup for instance, in the Semifinal against Real Sociedad in the Super Cup.
Still, there’s more competition for him currently as Frenkie de Jong and Pedri have almost established themselves as regulars. However, his contract still has two more years as he recently extended his contract.

Riqui Puig made his breakthrough to the senior team in 2018 after performing well at FC Barcelona B. However, a lack of playing time is still evident for the La Masia product.
He has made just 36 appearances for the Catalans so far and finding the back of the net only once. Atletico may be a better option for getting more playing time and the Spaniard could be a better player there. According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, the youngster might be on his way to Wanda Metropolitano.
Diego Simeone has been almost successful this season as his team is currently topping the La Liga. However, there’s still a lot of work left. Puig would fit well in the lineup as the coach wants to bring a more attack-minded footballing style.
The Rojiblancos brought Luis Suarez at the start of the season and he has been a boon for them. Will Riqui Puig follow the path that Suarez has taken or will he continue at Barcelona?
