Atletico Madrid weighing up a move for Timo Werner

Atletico Madrid is reportedly showing interest in signing Chelsea ace Timo Werner as per the report in TRANSFERmarketWEB

The Germany international joined the Blues last summer from RB Leipzig for around €53 million. The 25-year-old started the season brightly as he scored a goal in his first appearance with the west London side in a friendly fixture. However, things started to go downhill as the season progressed. The forward only managed to score 12 goals in 52 appearances in all competitions.

According to the report, Atletico Madrid has joined the race to sign Chelsea forward Timo Werner along with Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, and Juventus. The report claimed that following an underwhelming debut season from the German, Chelsea might be ready to offload the winger sooner rather than later. And the aforementioned clubs are showing interest in signing the former Leipzig star.

Will Chelsea want to sell Werner to Atletico Madrid?

Despite struggling to find the back of the net at Stamford Bridge, the 25-year-old has played a key role in Chelsea’s run to the Champions League glory last term under Thomas Tuchel.

Although the German forward had trouble in front of the goal. He never lacked the courage to try again and always found himself in a good position to score goals. The forward’s pace is a great asset to have for any coach to stretch the opposition defence.

So, it might not be a wise decision for Chelsea to let go of their asset. However, on the other hand, Atletico Madrid could be a perfect destination for Timo Werner. Diego Simeone likes to implement a counter-attacking system and the German forward could be a perfect addition to that system for his blistering pace.

So, it might be a very good transfer for both Atletico Madrid and Timo Werner if the forward was to join the Rojiblancos. However, it will be a huge loss for Chelsea and Thomas Tuchel.
