Atletico Madrid are reported to go head to head with their fiercest rival Real Madrid this summer for the signature of the in-demand Bundesliga striker Andre Silva. Both the Madrid clubs are interested in bringing Portuguese striker Andre Silva from Eintracht Frankfurt in the coming transfer window, according to Sky Sports.
Andre Silva has been very impressive in Germany this season. He is currently second in the top scorer’s list in Bundesliga with 25 goals from 29 appearances.
Atletico Madrid have opened talks with representatives of Andre Silva:
Atletico Madrid are said to be leading the race for Silva’s signature. The Rojiblancos are in need of a striker. While Luis Suarez has been impressive for them this season, he is not getting any younger. The other option up top includes Moussa Dembele, who has not been able to find regular minutes with Atletico after his move from Lyon in the winter.
Angel Correa and Joao Felix are the other players who were used extensively as Centre forwards this season, but their output is not extraordinary. Central midfielder Marcos Llorente is the second leading goalscorer for Atletico after Saurez. Thus signing a prolific scorer is a top priority for manager Diego Simeone next season.
Real Madrid also have a similar situation in the centre forward department. Apart from their top scorer Karim Benzema, Real do not have any other good options in the number 9 role. They are highly reliant on the ability and fitness of the Frenchman to lead their team.
Real Madrid however could use Luca Jovic as a bargaining chip in luring Andre Silva to their team. Jovic who joined Real Madrid last season from Frankfurt had a horrible time in Spain. The Serbian was not able to get regular playing time and was never part of Zidane’s plan.
This season, Jovic returned to Frankfurt on a loan move. Madrid could persuade for a swap deal with Jovic returning to Frankfurt while Silva moving to Madrid. However, the high wages currently enjoyed by Jovic could be a stumbling block in materializing this deal.
While both the Madrid clubs are hoping to sign Andre Silva, there are other clubs interested in bringing the Portuguese to their team. Barcelona and Manchester United both consider Silva as a cheaper alternative to Erling Haaland. Silva is said to cost only around €35-40 million. Borussia Dortmund are also eyeing Silva as a replacement for Haaland if the Norwegian leaves them this summer.
So it’s fair to say that Andre Silva will be one of the hottest properties in the coming transfer window, with a lot of clubs vying for players’ signature already.
