Aurelian Tchouameni: The Defensive Wall

Perhaps one of the most sought defensive midfielders in Europe right now is AS Monaco’s Aurelian Tchouameni. The 22-year-old has successfully courted the interest of top European clubs. With the transfer window just two days away from opening the sides have found out roughly what he’s going to cost them.

An initial bid of nothing less than 70-80 million pounds would be necessary for them to start talking about this transfer. This is a lot for players whom football fans won’t even recognize on the streets. Potential buyers such as Juventus, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Real Madrid are all monitoring his movement very closely.

Tchouameni and what makes him so special?

Man Utd, PSG, and Arsenal are also said to be interested in signing the former Bordeaux star. He has made 32 appearances this season and has earned more minutes than any outfield player season.
Tchouameni has completed his second full campaign with Monaco. His 60 million pounds switch to Monaco has brought durability to the side. Despite his age, he has already made 99 appearances over the last two seasons missing just five.
His league performance has earned him a call-up to Deschamps squad in the autumn of 2021. Deschamps is too resistant to any changes in his line-ups but has made an exception for Tchouameni. Already registering 8 caps with the national side his most remarkable one comes in the national league semi-final victory over Belgium.
He has often played in the usual spot of N’golo Kante alongside Pogba, giving flexibility to the midfield in terms of attack and absorb.

Tchouameni by Numbers

This season he registered a goal and an assist to his name which may not sound impressive but it’s defensively where he shines. With monstrous 6.5 tackles and interceptions per 90 accompanied by a 71% aerial win rate has helped Monaco to establish an avg. 54% possession throughout the season.

The significance of these numbers is enormous especially when the team has the ball most of the time.
A move that looks inevitable this summer will make sure he’s a regular starter at an elite club. If rumors are true, Tchouameni and Real Madrid have already reached a verbal agreement.

Chances of him moving to Spain are high but long-time admirers Chelsea & Liverpool can still swoop in and turn things around.
Los Merengues CDM Casemiro who’s now 30 has seen a decline in minutes for the third consecutive year. Touchameni is a wall and would be the best replacement for Casemiro.
