Along with star players such as Son Heung-min, Iran’s Sardar Azmoun, and Saki Kumagai, Bala Devi was named as an AFC International Player of the Week nominee. But later she beat all of them and won the title with 50 percent of the votes, took home the honor this week.

Earlier this week, Bala Devi recently scored her first goal for Rangers FC in the Scottish Women’s Premier League. In January, she signed an 18 months agreement with the Rangers.
In January, she became the first Indian to sign a professional contract for a top-tier club in Europe. The ‘Old Firm Derby‘ – which is one of the world’s oldest football rivalries between Rangers FC and Celtic FC – also featured Bala Devi.
Bala Devi is the Indian national women’s team’s current top scorer, netting a remarkable 52 times in 58 games since 2010, which makes her the top international goal scorer in the South Asian region as well.

At the domestic stage, Bala has a prolific record with over 100 goals in 120 matches. For the past two seasons, she has been the top scorer in the Indian Women’s League and has also been named twice, in 2015 and 2016, as the All India Football Federation (AIFF) Women’s Player of the Year.

She has won three SAFF Championship trophies as a senior figure in the Indian women’s national team (2010, 2014, and 2016). She has also acted as captain of the national team in the past.
