Chelsea midfield maestro Jorginho was announced the UEFA Men’s Player of the Year 2020/21 season. The announcement took place during the Champions League group draw on Thursday.
Jorginho won the coveted individual prize ahead of the other two nominees Kevin De Bruyne and N’Golo Kante. The decision came down to the Italians key role in the title victory in UEFA Champions League and the Euro 2020.

JORGINHO COMPLETES UEFA HATTRICK
Jorginho has an incredible 2020/21 season for both his club and country. The midfielder was pivotal for the Chelsea side, which won the UEFA Champions League by beating Manchester City in the final. It was especially special for the 29-year-old who was criticized by many including Chelsea fans during his initial times.
However, Jorginho silenced his critics by cementing his position under both Frank Lampard and current boss Thomas Tuchel. Chelsea also came away with multiple awards during the ceremony. Goalkeeper Edouard Mendy became the best goalkeeper award, while N’Golo Kante was selected as the Midfielder of the year. Manager Thomas Tuchel won the Men’s Coach of the Year award to complete Chelsea’s domination.
What helped Jorginho to stand out was his performance with his national side as well. The midfielder was a crucial part of Roberto Mancini’s Italian side, which won the UEFA European Championship. By winning the UEFA Men’s Player of the Year award, Jorginho has now completed the Hattrick of UEFA trophies, a feat only accomplished by Cristiano Ronaldo.
The award also increases the chances for the Italian to win the Ballon d’Or. Messi will be the biggest competition, especially after he helped his nation to win the Copa America.
