Barcelona have finally got all of their new signings registered in La Liga. It was not by any means an easy process. The Catalans had to dig deep and activate economic levers one after another. There have been plenty of new faces at Camp Nou recently. Most of them were registered before the start of La Liga. But for that also, departures had to take place at the club with salary reduction of the players also done. Jules Kounde was not registered for the first 2 La Liga games because the maximum salary limit was breached. The Frenchman had to wait until the game against Sevilla to stake his claim in the side.
But then also, Barcelona faced issues in registering Marcos Alonso and Hector Bellerin. The Spanish fullbacks arrived as free agents from their respective clubs. But coming as free agents also did not solve the problem until the required salary space was not created. Martin Braithwaite and Aubameyang left the club on deadline day which allowed Bellerin and Alonso to be registered with the club. However, the FFP rules of La Liga meant that the New signings could only be offered a short-term contract. This was mainly the reason why Alonso and Bellerin have contracts that run out in 2023.
La Liga President Javier Tebas has criticized the Catalans over the complaints the club has made regarding the FFP. The Spaniard said:
“It is very clear. The only club who say that it is not is FC Barcelona, but they know what economic control is like and they know that with Bartomeu the same has been enforced. What happens is that, due to the situation they have, it is better to blame me, when I am not the one in control of the economy, for that there is a fifteen-person cabinet led by the corporate general manager.”
Are Barcelona serious contenders for all titles this season?
A world-class squad with a young hungry manager, Barcelona have a lot to prove this season. They had one of the best transfer windows in the summer and getting big results now is the least for them to do. But it is easier to say than doing it on the pitch. Barcelona faces tough tests against the likes of Inter Milan and Bayern Munich this season in the group stages. Moreover, Real Madrid are looking stronger with each passing day which could strike an intense La Liga race.
If there is one thing that is not their side, it is probably experience. The likes of Pique, Alba, and Busquets are seeing a lot of minutes on the bench this season. It is an extremely young squad that might also be a negative aspect for the club. There is no denying the Talent that Xavi’s Barcelona have got but it is a different thing to replicate it on the pitch. It will be a season to look forward to as the Blaugranas return to the top of European football.
