Barcelona defensive prodigy to stay at the club

Football Express

Barcelona’s famed La Masia has consistently produced excellent talents that have made the cut into the first team. Gavi is the recent one to grab a top eleven spot in the first team. For a couple of seasons now, Alejandro Balde has been knocking on the door of the first team. The young left-back has been an integral part of the youth subsidiary. Many would argue that he is the rightful heir to Jordi Alba.

Xavi certainly seems to think that. The gaffer gave Balde the whole preseason outings in the USA to prove his talent. Following his impressive performances, Xavi handed him the first start in La Liga against Real Sociedad. The young talent didn’t disappoint as he was critical in the final third. He also provided an assist to Lewandowski following a great run with the ball. Xavi seems to have stood by his point as Balde has since started all the games while pushing veteran Alba into the stands. No one expected Alba to fall out of favor since his spectacular performances last season.

Barcelona’s stand with Balde

At the start of the season, Balde was close to leaving out on loan as he wanted senior football game time. However, according to Gerard Romero, FC Barcelona has informed all the potential suitors that Balde will not leave. The club has put all its faith in the young Spaniard to be an essential part of the squad.

With the club signing Marcus Alonso to fill the left-back position, competition will be stiff for the starting spot. However, young Balde is expected to start ahead of Alonso and Alba, considering he continues to put in impressive performances. This puts Alba in a precarious position. The Spanish international would like to redeem himself to grab a spot in the Spain World Cup squad under Luis Enrique.
