Barcelona eye replacements for Busquets

Barcelona

Barcelona are a changed sight now. A club which was struggling to pay the wages of its players is now once again the biggest in world football. It was a brilliant transfer window for the Catalans as they conjured up some really important signings. It finally looks like they are back to their very best under coach Xavi. They have had a brilliant start to their season with just one loss coming against Bayern Munich. The Blaugranas have scored the most goals in La Liga and have also held the most clean sheets. As good as the attack is, the defense also seems to be very secure this time.

But the addition of new players has made life very difficult for the veterans. Jules Kounde has made a fantastic start to life at his new club Barcelona. He is now one of the first names on the team for Xavi ahead of the 35-year-old Gerard Pique. Jordi Alba is also suffering from the lack of game time as Balde has made a fantastic start to the season. But one player that is still quite important for the Blaugranas at such an age is Sergio Busquets. Arguably the best Defensive Midfielder in the history of football, it is nearly impossible to replace Busquets. The Spaniard has quality and intelligence that no one has ever possessed and this season will be his last.

As reports say, Sergio Busquets has communicated to the club that he will be leaving in 2023 as a free agent. The 33-year-old has won everything there is to win in football and plans to relax and play in USA. Inter Miami are the team interested in Busquets and if things go alright, Busquets will be in Miami next season. Busquets felt that it was now time for him to leave and let the youngsters thrive and take the club to the top. After around 15 years of service for the club, he leaves as a player the club and the fans will always miss.

Ruben Neves – The heir to Busquets’s throne

Ruben Neves has been in fine form for Portugal and Wolves this season. This has made a lot of clubs interested in the midfielder who is Barcelona’s No.1 target as reported by media. Last season, Barcelona made a lot of efforts to sign him but all in vain. But it was Wolves’ who demanded too much money that the Catalans were not in a position to pay at that time. This made the Blaugranas think to get Neves next season when his contract expires in 2024.

Laporta’s good relationship with Neves’ agent Jorge Mendes can also be one of the key factors in this deal. He is one of the most injury-free players in the premier league and would be a top investment for Barcelona. But currently, Barcelona are also looking at Zubimendi as an option. Xavi is really impressed by the Spaniard and this might just tip the odds in his favor. But his high value is very difficult to match for Barcelona which is why Ruben Neves might be a better option.
