Barcelona have considered Thomas Tuchel as a replacement for Xavi

Thomas Tuchel

Barcelona started their reign under Xavi Hernandez quite well last season. The club was able to recover from a poor position to finish 2nd in La Liga. Even though the club did not win the UEFA Europa League, President Joan Laporta has always backed Xavi Hernandez. However, due to the recent slump in form despite some heavy spending in the summer, the club has considered Thomas Tuchel as a possible option if they decide to sack Xavi Hernandez mid-season.

If the club decides to do so, it will be a really harsh decision as the Spaniard has done a good job. However, the club cannot afford to have another mediocre season due to financial pressure. In such a situation, Thomas Tuchel is a suitable candidate for the job. The German most recently managed Chelsea and did an excellent job with the club.

He was sacked by Chelsea owner Todd Boehly due to a difference in opinion over club operations. Barcelona can appoint him if they decide to part ways with Xavi. However, it is impossible for the German manager to understand Barcelona’s philosophy the way Xavi embodied it. The Spaniard fits perfectly due to his understanding of the culture, and it would be foolish to let him go.

Thomas Tuchel will be excited to join Barcelona if the offer comes

The German Manager has been out of a job since his sacking and has rebuffed a few offers. However, Barcelona is one club that will be tough to turn down. It is common thing for players and coaches to accept offers from Barcelona and Real Madrid out of the blue. It is due to the stature of the clubs.

The former Chelsea boss will be more than happy to take over a squad as rich as Barcelona. The acquisition of Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, and Jules Kounde has added to the quality of the squad. Raphinha, Jules Kounde, Ousmane Dembele, and Frenkie De Jong are players that Thomas Tuchel wanted to sign for Chelsea. In addition to these, Andreas Christensen and Marcos Alonso are familiar faces for the manager which will help him settle in quickly. So the tactician will not think twice before saying yes.

Signing for Barcelona will also afford him the opportunity to compete for major trophies and thus it seems a fit on all fronts. However, for this union to work, Barcelona will have to accept that the club will move away from its philosophy. The German manager like to build on a solid defence and also is famous for changing tactics as per the challenge ahead. Thus, Barcelona will not be able to rely on one solid philosophy for the team!!
