The Blaugrana have some defensive issues with only Gerard Pique, Clement Lenglet, and Ronald Araujo at the central part of defense. Pique’s injury has been concerning for La Liga giants head coach Ronald Koeman this season.
Let’s have a look at the detailed report about these two German internationals.
Rudiger, a crucial defender to be studied by FC Barcelona
27-year-old Antonio Rudiger had been one of the crucial defenders for Chelsea last season. He began his professional career at VfB Stuttgart and scored 2 goals in 66 matches for them.
The centre-back then played for AS Roma till 2016-17 season. Then, he opted to play for the London heavyweights. He has his most goals scored in his career at Chelsea, 5 goals in 81 appearances.
However, the Blues have now included Kurt Zouma and Thiago Silva as the current centre-backs in the starting 11.
Rudiger had earlier opted to move away in summer however, recently after a talk with Frank Lampard, the move looks unlikely.
Mustafi looking for more playing time!
Shkodran Mustafi, one of the most important Arsenal players is currently lacking playing time under his new Head coach Mikel Arteta.
The 28-year-old centre back Mustafi even received a life imprisonment petition signed by a fan after a horrible defensive display in a 3-1 loss to Crystal Palace.
He started his career at Everton and then moved to Sampdoria. Mustafi then had a good stint at Valencia CF. He scored 6 goals in 64 matches for Los Che.
Then Arsenal signed him on 30 August 2016 for an undisclosed fee of around €35 million. He also has a record of 18 games without a defeat. His first goal came in a 2-1 home win against Burnley in 2017.
Currently, he has just 43 minutes of playing time in the Premier League. He had played more in the Europa League for the Gunners. His La Liga experience with Valencia might actually help Barca.
Along with Eric Garcia, Rudiger and Mustafi are considered by Barcelona so as to improve the defence. However, with the current debt that they are facing it would be difficult to sign any players.
