Barcelona interested in a shock move for the former Tottenham Hotspur star

Barcelona's new home kit

Barcelona is reportedly exploring the possibility of signing former Tottenham Hotspur winger Erik Lamela as per the report in Spanish outlet Fichajes

The 30-year-old joined La Liga side Sevilla last summer from Spurs in a swap deal involving Bryan Gil who went the other way. Since joining Julian Lopetegui’s side the Argentine has scored five goals and assisted one time in 16 appearances in the league.

Despite displaying an underwhelming performance at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuan. The winger has seemed to have managed to attract attention from Barcelona.

According to the report, Barcelona has done quite a lot of business with the Rojiblancos in the past. Meanwhile, the Blaugrana are set to raid Sevilla once again to sign Erik Lamela this time around.

Xavi’s side is reportedly looking to add more creativity in the midfield of the park. And the Catalan giants are eyeing signing Lamela and integrating him into the midfield to bolster their creativity.

Will Lamela be a good fit for Barcelona?

Erik Lamela has played as a winger for most of his career. However, the report is claiming that Xavi is looking to sign the Argentine as a midfielder. So, it will be interesting to see how that works out at the Camp Nou stadium.

On the other hand, Barcelona is looking to rebuild a squad that is capable of challenging for the big prizes for years to come. Therefore, signing players who are above 30, might not be a shrewd decision by the club’s hierarchy.

However, Barcelona already has quite a lot of young players who have shown their potential in recent times. So, signing experienced players in order to establish a squad with a perfect blend of youth and experience might not be a bad thing.

So, it will be interesting to see how Xavi will decide to rebuild his squad. After displaying glimpses of their best, the Blaugrana have encountered a stumbling block in recent weeks. They have been knocked out of the Europa League by Eintracht Frankfurt. And now they have lost three of their last four games in all competitions.
