Alessandro Bastoni has been pivotal member of Antonio Conte’s Inter Milan that just won the Serie A. Primarily a centre-back, Bastoni controls the defence just as he controls the attack of the opposition.
He made 39 appearances for Inter Milan this season and although he had no goals to his name he grabbed 3 assists. He has been one of the integral member of the team on their run to the first Scudetto in 11 years.
With the season over, the transfer rumours are kicking in. After breaking into the Italian national team, Bastoni is receiving a lot of attention. Of the many clubs interested in him, Barcelona are strong contenders.
Bastoni to Barcelona possible
According to some reports, Bastoni is the subject of interest from Barcelona over a move in the summer transfer window. The Catalan giants are looking to rival several Premier League clubs in pursuit of the Italian international who has a release clause of around €55 million.
Eric Garcia will be making a return to Barcelona and that might be a small obstacle. The French pair Samuel Umtiti and Clement Lenglet are facing an uncertain future at Camp Nou. Both have had a terrible season and have their respective destinations.
Antonio Conte stepped down from his role last week. Though Inter have not decided on the new manager yet, a first-team defender is one to keep. With increasing competition, his price is likely to go up.
Barcelona’s defender dilemma
Keeping Garcia’s inexperience in mind, it would be wise for Barcelona to sign two centre-backs. Matthijs de Ligt, Aissa Mandi and Lisandro Martinez along with Bastoni have been linked to Camp Nou.
Gerard Pique will retire soon and Garcia is likely to be his long-term replacement. Bastoni’s aerial skills can give Barcelona a new dimension to their defence. But it all depends upon Messi.
