Barcelona have reportedly offered Philippe Coutinho to the Italian side Lazio as per the report in Corriere dello Sport.
The midfielder joined the Catalan giants back in 2018 from Liverpool for around €145 million. However, the deal has been a disaster for the Blaugrana. The Brazilian couldn’t produce anything similar to what he used to display at Anfield and also struggled with fitness issues at Camp Nou.
According to the report in Corriere dello Sport, Barcelona have reportedly offered the 29-year-old to Lazio on loan and are also willing to accept 50% of the player’s salary. Coutinho currently earns around €9 million-a-year. However, the Serie A side are not ready to spend that amount of money on the midfielder.
The report further claims that the Blaugrana are looking to offload their expensive flop midfielder and it is hard for them to find a proper suitor for Coutinho given his high salary. Lazio’s new manager Maurizio Sarri’s 4-3-3 system will be the perfect place for the midfielder to regain his confidence and his previous experience with Inter will help him to settle down in Serie A.
Can Barcelona offload Coutinho to Lazio?
Barcelona are struggling with their financial problems. Following the departure of Lionel Messi, La Liga giants have managed to reduce some wages off their account. However, it is still out of sustainability, selling Coutinho will help them to reduce the spending even more.
The Blaugrana have not been able to register their new signings Memphis Depay, Eric García, Emerson Royal and Sergio Aguero due to the Spanish financial fair play rule. And offloading Coutinho’s salary would help the club to find a way to register the aforementioned names.
Lazio could be a good destination for Coutinho as Maurizio Sarri’s system will suit him perfectly to produce his best. And Serie A will be the right league to showcase his talent once again in front of the world. However, the midfielder might be willing to play Champions League football and the Biancocelesti are currently in the Europa League.
Nevertheless, Philippe Coutinho should be looking to play regular first-team football, following his disappointment at Barcelona and Lazio could turn out to be an excellent destination. So, it will be interesting to see what the midfielder will decide to do for next season.
