Barcelona opted for Ferran Torres ahead of his Spain teammate

Julian Araujo

Barcelona brought Ferran Torres in January for 55 million euros from Manchester City. Valencia made the move to Manchester in 2020 from Valencia. But he never made it into the prominent player’s list under Pep in the club. After Xavi was appointed the first-team coach, Ferran was the first player he signed for the club.

His first half of the season in Blaugrna colors was brilliant. But the start of the new season has been cruel to him. He lost his place in the starting eleven to Dembele and Raphinha and also lost his confidence in himself in the process. The transfer has been questioned in recent times.

However, with the Spain National team, Ferran is always an essential part and Luis Enrique trusts him completely. His teammate Dani Olmo also made his return from a long-term injury and was crucial for the 7-0 win against Costa Rica.

Barcelona chose Ferran over Dani Olmo

According to news from transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, FC Barcelona was seriously interested in Dani Olmo but ultimately decided to make a move for Ferran Torres over him. Taling to Caught Offside, he revealed his interest in Dani Olmo from Barcelona;

“Strongest interest was from Barcelona one year ago, in 2021; but then they invested €55m on Ferran Torres so nothing happened. I think he could be great for Premier League too, but there’s nothing imminent or close as of today.”

Barcelona has never shied away from potential interest in Spain International. Dani Olmo was one of the talented La Masia graduates before he made his move to Russia. Ever since his breakthrough in Russia and then in RB Leipzig, Barcelona has kept track of his development as a player. Dani Olmo’s profile is rare in football and perfectly suits Barcelona’s style of planning under Xavi. While the move didn’t happen. It might still be a possibility in the future.
