Barcelona reignites Interest in Marcos Alonso

Barcelona

Barcelona are still not done with their transfer window. As days pass, the club gets associated with more and more players. The squad looks complete but Xavi is still looking to improve it as much as he can. The defense this time looks to be reinforced as compared to other seasons. Jules kounde and Andreas Christensen have come in and given promising performances. It is Xavi who will now be having a headache as to who to choose in the CB position. More importantly, it is the full-backs position that poses problems.

Alejandro Balde has impressed his coach and is getting the nod over the ever-reliant Jordi Alba. Xavi feels Alba is very vulnerable defensively and it is time that the youngsters get a chance to shine. Marcos Alonso was all set to come and be the backup left-back. But something changed in the last few days as Barcelona’s interest finished off. They were not willing to include him in the Aubameyang deal. Xavi feels Alex Balde and Jordi Alba as the left backs have more than enough quality to have a successful season.

But reports in Spain again say that the Catalans are preparing to unveil him as a Barcelona player just before the window ends. The ever reliable Gerard Romero reports that discussions have started between Barcelona and Chelsea once again. Xavi feels an experienced player like Alonso can be a great addition to the squad. Alonso’s agents met with Barcelona earlier today and a deal with Chelsea does not feel imminent. Alonso also turned down Atletico Madrid’s offer for him in order to play for the Blaugranas.

More Departures at Barcelona?

The transfer window is far from over for the Catalans. The club is still working on departures. The likes of Martin Braithwaite, Aubameyang, Depay, and Dest have been in the news recently a lot. Depay’s move to Juventus broke down at the last stages. Aubameyang to Chelsea is still not final with clubs discussing over fee. Dest is no longer a part of Xavi’s preferred squad and might just depart this season.

A right-back signing is what Barcelona are prioritizing now. Xavi wants a good ball-playing right-back who can provide offensive support. Juan Foyth from Villareal is one of the options out in the market. Hamari Traore from Rennes is also being discussed as a potential option at right back. But now if Alonso comes in, Xavi might deploy one of the left backs as a right back.
