Arsenal rejected the signing of Barcelona star Ferran Torres. FC Barcelona offered the Spanish to the Gunners but Mikel Arteta had other plans. The manager was on the lookout for other players than Ferran Torres.
The 24-year-old has had a disappointing spell with Barcelona. He joined the Spanish club from Premier League giants Manchester City. Barcelona paid a whooping 55 million euros to sign the winger in the transfer window of January 2022.
According to FootballTransfers, Barcelona offered Torres to Arsenal in the recent summer transfer window. The Gunners were not keen on this offer and focused on signing Raheem Sterling from Chelsea.
There is no indication that Arsenal would revisit the interest to sign Torres. Barcelona however would look to offload the winger as they will look to secure funds for future signings. They are currently on the lookout for a player to strengthen their midfield.
Hansi Flick and Deco agree that Ferran Torres has to move out of the club. There has been no active interest from clubs to sign the players. Ac Milan and Arsenal were the top contenders for Torres but the interest has subtle down for now.
Barcelona are looking to expand their choices in midfield and attack. The offloading of unused players will help the club sign more players. The next January transfer window will be interesting as many players will make their way out of Camp Nou.
Winger’s disappointing time with Barcelona
Ferran Torres was pretty impressive with Manchester City. The glaring playstyle of the winger dimmed down when he joined Barcelona. The 24-year-old arrived at Camp Nou in January of 2022. The Spanish club paid 42 million for the Spanish international.
The winger has rarely got any playtime for the team. He was the first-choice starter in his opening season for the club. His chances to start have significantly reduced as he has mostly failed to make an impactful contribution.
Torres recently got injured in the match against Alaves where Barcelona won the game 3-0. The 24-year-old suffered an injury to his hamstring as he went down before halftime. He is expected to be out for 4 to 8 weeks. Hansi Flick was concerned about the player’s injury he said-
“Ferran’s injury is worrying. We don’t have many options in attack, but we’ll see what happens”.
Xavi Hernandez did allow Torres some game time under his wing. The 2024-2025 season has not been so good for the winger. He faces serious competition with the likes of Raphina and Lamine Yamal. Ferran has only played 420 minutes for the club with one goal and two assists in all competitions.
New manager Hansi Flick has shown faith in Torres, believing in the winger’s abilities. Flick has given Ferran a chance to prove his potential, but he has not been anything out of the box. Barcelona management is not very happy with Torres’s performance and is looking for ways to release him.
The Spanish had almost left Barcelona in the summer transfer window with links from Arsenal. There were also rumours of interest from Italian club AC Milan. Sporting director of the club Deco wants to find a way to release Torres. Barcelona is looking to expand its purse because it wants to add players to its attack and midfield.
Hansi Flicks looks to offload players
New coach Hansi Flick has had a major part in Barcelona’s brilliant start to the 2024-2025 campaign. Flick even maintained a 5 game-unbeaten streak with his team in La Liga. The manager has made important decisions related to players that have been clinical for the club.
The Barcelona camp is soon to be emptied of some injured players. Frenkie De Jong emerged from injury against Alaves. More players are riled to come out of their injuries after the international break. Dani Olmo, Gavi and Fermin Lopez will make their way into the squad. The return of these injured players would be beneficial for the German coach. He will get diversified options in the midfield.
This return of top players will risk the place of teammates Ferran Torres and Pablo Torre. Flick has been using these two in recent matches. The performance has been just average for the two players which has significantly reduced their minutes.
Barcelona would look to part ways with Pablo Torre and Ferran Torres in the next January transfer window. They would look to send these players on loan or on a permanent deal. If the club do release them they would be able to maintain a salary margin. They would also register players like Dani Olmo and Pau Victor.
The Spanish club has faced difficulties in signing and registering players into the team. Euro 2024 winner Dani Olmo had to wait for a few days before the club was able to register him. The salary margin will also be easily manageable by the club as they release some players.
