Barcelona target Juan Foyth to fill the void at Right back

Juan

Barcelona has been very active this summer in the transfer market in an attempt to bolster their squad. The Blaugrana has made a number of top signings including Robert Lewandowski, Jules Kounde, Raphinha, Andreas Christensen, and Franck Kessie. The club is reportedly now looking to sign Juan Foyth from Villarreal.

The club has identified the Argentine defender as a long-term option at Right back. The position is a cause of concern for the manager at the moment as there is no suitable player. Dani Alves has left the club this summer after his short stint last season.

Sergino Dest is the only option at Right back for the club. However, it is clear that Xavi Hernandez does not trust the American international. The Spanish tactician has used Ronald Araujo and Oscar Mingueza more than Sergino Dest as Right backs since his arrival. Juan Foyth is on the radar to ensure that the squad has a player accustomed to playing at Right back regularly.

The Argentine defender has played in the position really well at Villarreal after his transfer from Tottenham. The defender has looked strong and agile in the Right back role and seems to be very comfortable.

Juan Foyth is not the traditional ‘Barcelona’ right back

The Argentine defender started his career as a centre-back with Tottenham Hotspur. He has played as a Right back ever since his move to Spain. However, Juan Foyth is not the kind of Right back, Barcelona are accustomed to using.

The Blaugrana prefer their full-backs to make striding runs forward and contribute offensively. However, Juan Foyth plays in a compact and narrow-back four. Villarreal plays a more direct kind of football and utilizes traditional wingers for offensive play. The fullbacks are given a more defensive role to provide robustness to the team.

The Argentine defender will have to adapt to the playing style of Barcelona quickly. Xavi Hernandez has identified the defender himself for the role and it indicates that the Spaniard has seen some qualities in the youngster that can make him the player Barcelona wants for the Right back role.

The transfer window is coming to an end and Barcelona has less time left to complete their transfer business. Especially because the club is also looking to manage financial obligations with every signing. It will be interesting to see if the club can complete the signing of Juan Foyth!!
