Barcelona threatens legal action in response to Lionel Messi contract leaks

Barcelona is

Barcelona and Messi have had a challenging relationship since the player left the club for PSG. A day that was supposed to be joyful for the Cules turned ugly. The FC Barcelona board realized they could not keep Messi at the club. The club is now trying to resolve the bitterness between the two parties. In order to facilitate a return for the prodigal son in the summer of 2023.

El Mundo published a series of reports detailing Messi’s last contract renewal in Barcelona. The reports are part of the emails and information received by the police while investigating the Barca gate scandal. According to the reports, Messi made several requests to extend his contract, including a private box at Camp Nou for his and Luis Suarez’s family. Other demands included a private plane, a three-year deal with a €10 million signing bonus. And on top of that a € 10,000 release clause.

Barcelona releases a statement in regards to leaks

The Spanish publication El Mundo was criticized by Barcelona for publishing information about the club’s contract negotiations with Lionel Messi in 2020. In a subsequent statement released by the club, it hits out at El Mundo and even threatens legal actions. The statement said;

“In relation to the information published in El Mundo under the title ‘Barca Leaks, the club’s secret files’, Barcelona expresses indignation at the intentional leaking of information that is part of a legal process.

“The club regrets that the media in question boasts of having ‘access to a huge number of documents and emails that are part of the Barcagate investigation’ when this information is yet to be shared.

“In any case, the article in question makes public documents that have nothing to do with the ongoing case. And their use is an affront to the reputation and confidentiality of the club. For that reason, and with the aim of protecting Barcelona’s rights, the club’s legal department is studying the legal measures that need to be taken.”

In the coming days, it will be clarified if the club will go ahead with the legal actions.
