Barcelona to reignite Olmo pursuit in January

Camavinga

Even though the summer transfer window is officially over, clubs have started planning for their next move. According to Mundo Deportivo, FC Barcelona will try to sign former La Masia star Dani Olmo in January.

Multiple reports claimed that Barcelona tried to sign Olmo in the final weeks of this transfer window. However, the club was not able to meet the demands of the Spaniards current club RB Leipzig.

Dani Olmo is one of the players that the Catalan giants have targeted this summer. However, poor financial situation meant that they could not convince Leipzig to sell him. Barcelona are looking to hold a meeting with the player in the coming weeks. The club is confident in signing him the next summer, but are looking to find ways to fast track the deal.

LEIPZIGS DYNAMIC MIDFIELDER

The Spaniard was part of the La Masia but left for Croatia in 2014. In Croatia, he developed playing for Dinamo Zagreb and featured for them 124 times. During this time he scored 34 and assisted 24 and also gained experience playing in the Champions League.

Olmo quickly made his name with Zagreb and top clubs from across Europe started to notice him, including Barcelona. But, RB Leipzig was able to convince the attacking midfielder as he joined them in 2020. He went on to appear 62 times for Die Roten Bullen, scoring 12 goals during that period.

The 23-year-old is an attacking midfielder who can also play on both wings. A good passer of the ball, he is known for playing excellent through balls. Olmo was part of the Spain national side in the Euro 2020, where he appeared 5 times and assisted for 3 goals. He already has 16 national appearances to his name, scoring 3 times for Spain.

OLMO TO MAKE BARCELONA RETURN?

For Barcelona signing Olmo was part of their plan for some time. They failed to convince him to join back in 2020 and has been monitoring him ever since. Manager Ronald Koeman is said to have given his approval to sign him as the club is looking to strengthen their attacking options.

Currently, the main attacking midfielder on the side is Philippe Coutinho, whom the club does not seem to have confidence in. However, with the disastrous financial condition of the club, meeting the asking price will be difficult.

Olmo has a contract with Leipzig till 2024 and is not in a hurry to sell him. So if Barcelona is serious about bringing him. they will have to pay upwards of €70 million. Unless they can sell some of their players, it will be extremely unlikely to see Olmo wearing the Barcelona jersey the next season.
