Arsenal star Thomas Partey is on the verge of leaving the club next summer. Partey joined the Gunners in 2020 from Spanish giants Atletico Madrid for a fee worth of £45 million. But due to his injury issues he never won the trust of manager Mikel Arteta. In his 4 years at London, the Ghanaian had already missed 42 Premier League games due to injuries.
But he has always been good in the pitch when he is fully fit. Arsenal have started the new season on a high note and Thomas Partey is one of the key players behind their success so far. In fact, Partey have started all of the 7 league games for the Gunners so far and even scored a goal against Aston Villa.
His increased game time have been very helpful for Arsenal in the absence of captain Martin Ødegard. The 31-year-old defensive midfielder have lived up to the expectations of Arteta this season. So, as the season will progress Partey’s game time will also decrease time by time. On the other hand, Arsenal is yet to offer a contract renewal to Thomas Partey. And it seems less likely for them to do so. As Merino was signed this summer only to replace Partey in the near future. But his performances so far can change Arteta’s mind later.
However, it will also depend on Thomas Partey whether he will stay as a second choice option for them or find a new club. There isn’t any talks held so far between the player and club’s camp. And it is more likely to see the Ghanaian say goodbye to the Gunners in the summer of 2025. As per the reports, Thomas Partey can join Spanish giants Barcelona as a free agent in 2025.
Will the Ghanaian fit in at Barca?
Partey was linked with several clubs earlier this summer. Italian giants Juventus, former club Atletico and even Saudi clubs were also interested in the 31-year-old holding midfielder. But Barcelona was heavily linked with the Ghanaian and reports from Sport 45 says that the Spanish top flight wants to sign Partey on a pre-contract agreement in January. As it would help Partey to join the Catalan side for free in the next summer transfer window.
Football Express says, it will be wonderful transfer for both Barca and Thomas Partey. As Barca will get a veteran midfielder like Partey for free. He can help the youngsters like Marc Bernal and Marc Casadó to grow into better players.
On the other hand Partey can play for a big club like Barcelona who can guarantee him atleast a trophy every season. Partey will also fit into Barca’s system as he has previous experience in Spain. The Ghanaian will also get enough playtime at Barca as those two mentioned above are still too young to play 50 or more games a season.
However, this deal is still a rumour and in football no one knows what will happen in the near future. Partey was also linked with several Saudi clubs and at this stage of his career, most of the players would not hesitate to go to the Middle-East as they offer a big amount of salary.
