Barcelona wrap up the awards in style

Julian Araujo

Barcelona are having a rough month. The Catalans are on the verge of another UCL group-stage exit after disappointing results against Inter Milan and Bayern Munich. Moreover, they also dropped down to 2nd in La Liga after the defeat against La Liga rivals Real Madrid. Fair to say, it has been a touchy period for the club. They have suffered a lot with injuries as key players picked up knocks in crucial periods. Ronald Araujo and Jules Kounde picked up injuries in the international break and it had a big effect on Barcelona’s results. Christensen also had an injury against Inter Milan which left the defense too vulnerable.

But apart from all this mess on the pitch, Barcelona will be really delighted that the players are easing the pressure off. France football announced its winners for the big awards last week and Barcelona dominated them. Robert Lewandowski is having a stellar season so far, having fired in 14 goals already. The Polish Striker has settled in almost immediately after arriving and improved Barcelona’s attack manifolds. Alexia Putellas won the women’s Ballon d’Or as the best women’s player of the season. The Spaniard had a stellar season as she guided Barcelona Femini to another La Liga title.

The Kopa trophy was won by none other than Gavi. The 18-year-old had a breakthrough Campaign last season as he made history at just 17 years of age. This season also, he has started in the same manner as he left the last one. The youngster with Pedri is the future of Barcelona’s midfield for the next decade. Gavi beat the likes of Jamal Musiala and Jude Bellingham to the award. Barcelona President Joan Laporta was really happy to see how the youngsters are doing the club proud with their contributions. Last year, Pedri won the Kopa trophy.

Nagelsmann has different views on the Kopa trophy winner

Julian Nagelsmann had different views when asked about the deserved Kopa trophy winner.

In my eyes, Jamal Musiala and Jude Bellingham had a better season than the winner Gavi, who is also doing really well. He’s a very good player who I think is highly talented. I would have voted the other way around though. I don’t think it would be undeserved for any of the three. But in my opinion, those two are a little ahead of Gavi.

Jamal Musiala and Jude Bellingham are having a brilliant 2022/23 season so far for their respective sides. But the award for the Kopa 2022 was based on the previous season which Gavi dominated. Even though Barcelona did not win any titles last season, Gavi was influential and brilliant in how the team made it to 2nd spot in La Liga.
