Barcelona’s Other Alternatives For Robert Lewandowski

Robert Lewandowski has made up his mind to leave FC Bayern Munich this summer. The Polish striker has admitted publicly that he wants a new challenge and is looking for a way out of Germany. FC Barcelona have been front runners to sign the striker this summer window but the latest bid of €35 million was rejected by the Bundesliga winners. Joan Laporta has been grinding since day one to help the club get over their financial woes. But as long as it won’t be done, Barcelona will find it very difficult to get their priority target this summer.

Economic levers are set to be activated which will give financial freedom to the Catalans and stabilize their squad. Lewandowski is already reported to have agreed on personal terms with Barca but the German club has insisted that the veteran will not be going anywhere. This may mean Barcelona will have to look at other options in the market. Following are the three versatile players that Xavi may just want to bring him as they will fit the system very well.

Gabriel Jesus

The Brazilian is sure to leave the English champions this year and may just fit into Xavi’s Barca like a perfect glove. Coached by Pep Guardiola, Jesus is well aware of the possession-based, tiki-taka football that Barca thrives under and may just get them up and running. The 25-year-old has his best years ahead of him and can be a long-term success for the Blaugranas. With Aubameyang in his thirties, Jesus will add unique facets to Xavi’s style of play and might just be a solution to their goalscoring issues. But the Catalans will have to face stiff competition from the likes of Arsenal, and Real Madrid both of whom have much better financial conditions.

Serge Gnabry

Barcelona’s pursuit of one Bayern man might not be successful which has got them to go for another Bayern ace, Serge Gnabry. The 26-year-old is facing an uncertain future at the club and might just be a brilliant pickup for the Catalans. The Bayern star has been one of the best goal scorers for a few seasons now and has really attracted interest from various European clubs. In Barca, he may just fit very well alongside the likes of Ansu Fati, Torres, Depay, and others. But European Champions Real Madrid will also be looking to sign the German, given his impressive form for quite a while now. If Barca indeed does go for him, it will be a difficult operation to pull through and Bayern won’t let him go for anything less than his value.

Kelechi Iheanacho

The Leicester City man has had a lot of talk about him all through Europe. A brilliant passer of the ball as well as reliable in goalscoring, the Nigerian International might just be a bargain pick for Barcelona. The potential he has is outrageous and he just needs a coach to believe him and be patient with him. With Dembele‘s future up in the air and pursuit of Raphinha going in circles, Iheanacho can blossom into a world-class player under the management of Xavi. This move might not be on Barca’s radar but definitely can do a whole lot of good for both the club and the player.
