Bayern Munich not going to make Douglas Costa move permanent

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Bayern Munich have no plans of extending Douglas Costa’ stay at the club after the loaned player has failed to make an impact. He will most probably be returning back to his parent club, Juventus after the end of the season.

This is the second time Douglas Costa is playing for The Bavarians. The 30-year-old Brazilian made his debut for Gremio at the age of 18. His Brazilian history helped him land a contract with the Ukrainian side, Shakhtar Donetsk in 2009.

He was approached by Bayern Munich in 2015, who later finalised the deal for €30 million. Douglas Costa had the perfect start to his career in Germany as he was contributing in every single match. He had 12 assists in his first 13 games before injury damaged the flow.

Succeeding Pep Guardiola was Carlo Ancelotti, under whom Costa’s playtime got hampered a lot and there was a fall-out with the board regarding this matter. After that season, he was sent out on loan to Juventus where The Old Lady made the move permanent for €40 million after his loan period with them expired.

His loan period was excellent, but after the move was made permanent, injuries got the better of him again. After spending 3 years at Turin he returned back to his previous club, Bayern on loan at the start of the season, and is currently having a tough spell there.

Douglas Costa to return back to Juventus after an unsuccessful spell at Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich are having a great season so far. They struggled at the start of the Bundesliga campaign, but are now back on track. They sit on top of the table, with only 4 points separating them from 2nd placed RB Leipzig. In the Champions League, they cruised past Lazio to book a quarter-final date with their previous year’s finalist, PSG.

However, there is bad news that has come in the worst time possible. Their striker and the leading goalscorer across Europe, Robert Lewandowski has picked up a knee injury while on international duty. It means that the Polish player will be missing out on both the ties against PSG.

The Brazilian midfielder has been undergoing a downfall in his form for quite some time. Costa has yet failed to make an impact with the German side. Bayern Munich’s coach, Hansi Flick is not impressed by the player’s performance and has no plans to renew his contract.

Moreover, his deteriorating form has pushed him further down the line. The likes of young wingers like Serge Gnabry, Kingsley Coman, and Leroy Sane have made it impossible for him to earn the trust back into the squad. To make things even worse, he had endured a metatarsal fracture back in February, which has kept him sidelined for weeks.

After his spell at the Allianz, he will be returning to Juventus. Although his future with the Italians is also undetermined. His struggling form that started at this club was the reason he was sent on loan. But it has been a failure and the Bianconeri’s will be looking for another loan or try to sell him if possible next summer, with Gremio interested.
