Bayern Munich Set to Battle Two English Clubs for Upamecano

Dayot Upamecano linked to Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Liverpool

Bayern Munich set to face stiff competition from Liverpool and Chelsea for the signature of RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano.

The 22-year-old International is one of Europe’s most sought-after center-backs at the moment and has been on the wishlists of several top clubs across Europe.

The Frenchman has a €42 million release clause to his name and could be on the move as big clubs come calling.

Upamecano target for Bayern Munich

The hierarchy at Bayern Munich has been vocal about interest in Upamecano in the past few weeks. Die Roten has taken the lead in the race for his signature as they have already held a lengthy conversation with the defender’s representatives.

Bayern is preparing for the departure of David Alaba. The Austrian defender is set to leave Bavaria in the summer on a free transfer.  Meanwhile, Jerome Boateng could also be on his way out at Bayern. The German defender has been linked with a move to Chelsea. Bayern will certainly need to reinforce their defensive contingent.

Thomas Tuchel has reportedly made the Frenchman his top target for the summer. The former Dortmund boss looks to re-build his defence in an attempt to make Chelsea title-challengers next season. Veteran defender Jerome Boateng, has been named as an alternate option with his contract with Bayern set to expire in the summer.

Tuchel remained tight lipped and distanced himself when asked about a potential move for Upamecano and Haaland.

Liverpool reportedly have big plans to invest heavily in the summer transfer window – with Dayot Upamecano on the list. Klopp considers the centre-back to be a ‘dream signing’ and will look to activate Upamecano’s release clause as part of a rebuild.

Though Liverpool signed Ben Davies from Preston and Ozan Kabak on loan, the interest in Upamecano remains. If the signings don’t work, Klopp would be keen to bring the Frenchman to Anfield.
