Germany and Bayern Munich captain and goalkeeper Manuel Neuer took to social media to appreciate fellow goalkeeper Alisson Becker. This was after Alisson’s stunning-headed goal against West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League.
Alisson turned around the match when he went in for the last-minute corner awarded for Liverpool. The Reds who were tied 1-1 in the match claimed a dramatic victory when the corner taken by Trent Alexander Arnold was met by a towering header from the Brazilian goalkeeper. This gave Liverpool an important victory in the final minute of the match, keeping their Champions League hope still alive.
Manuel Neuer was one of the many players who took on social media to congratulate Alisson for his goal. Bayern Munich goalkeeper posted a story on his Instagram with the caption “WHAT A GOAL MY FRIEND“. Both the Keepers are good friends. Alisson even admitted that he considers his German counterpart as a “Role Model“.
Alisson was going through a personally difficult time. The Brazilian lost his father to a tragic accident in February. The goal hence was a very emotional one for him.
Even with all these personal troubles, Alisson created history. His goal against West Bromwich Albion was the first-ever goal scored by a Liverpool goalkeeper in their entire history.
Football often has a lot of rivalry amongst the opposition players. Social media is also filled with many haters and trolls. However, it was refreshing to see such good camaraderie between Neuer and Alisson, two of the best goalkeepers in the game right now.
