Bayern Munich targets Inter Milan’s Scudetto winner

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Bayern Munich have joined the race to sign former Borussia Dortmund right-back Achraf Hakimi. He is currently playing for Inter Milan and has been pivotal for them in their league-winning campaign.

With the arrival of new manager Julian Nagelsmann next summer, Bayern are in for a rebuild. The German manager is known for using a three at the back defense and utilizes attack-minded wing-backs in his system.

Bayern currently have Benjamin Pavard and Bouna Sarr playing in this right-back role. While Pavard has stated his interest to shift to the centre of the defence, Sarr has been lacklustre in his debut season at the Allianz Arena. Lack of form and injuries have hampered Sarr and there are rumours that Bayern could even sell him this summer.

This has lead to Bayern being active in finding a suitable option in their right-back position. The club has already shortlisted multiple players including Emerson Royal and Max Aarons. Achraf Hakimi is the latest to be on the shortlist for ideal candidates.

HAKIMI THE IDEAL CHOICE FOR BAYERN?

The inclusion of Hakimi is not without merit. The Moroccan international fits the bill for Nagelsmann. He is an excellent choice as a wingback and has good numbers to back it up. This season for Inter Milan, he has scored 7 and assisted for 6 goals in the Serie A.

The 22-year-old also is familiar with the Bundesliga, having made his name during his time with Borussia Dortmund. Hakimi joined Dortmund on loan from Real Madrid. However, Dortmund could not sign him permanently. However, after not being able to get into Zinadine Zidane’s plans, Hakimi was sold to Inter Milan last summer for €40 million.

Inter Milan, on the other hand, would want to keep hold of their young superstar. They still have Hakimi contracted to them till 2025. However, recent reports have emerged that the club is facing financial difficulties.

The club’s owner Suning group of China is facing issues of their own and could be forced to sell their players this summer. If this happens, Bayern could be able to bring in the Moroccan for as much as €55 million.
