Bayern Targets Cody Gakpo After Wirtz Setback

Bayern Munich are now focusing on Cody Gakpo after losing the race for Florian Wirtz to Liverpool.

Cody Gakpo Emerges as Bayern’s Top Left-Wing Target

Having just missed out on Florian Wirtz, Bayern Munich are now looking at Liverpool‘s Cody Gakpo for a left winger, as per Florian Plettenberg. According to a report, the Bundesliga champions were leading the race for Wirtz until the PL champions made a massive offer. And the Reds have agreed personal terms with the midfielder, tipping the balance in their favor.

As a result, the German side have now dropped plans to bring in a new No.10. Sporting director Max Eberl is focusing on bringing in a top left winger. And Cody Gakpo is firmly on the radar.

Eberl admires the Dutch international and has already made initial contact with Liverpool about a possible deal. Alongside Gakpo, Bayern will also be watching Brighton’s Kaoru Mitoma and AC Milan‘s Rafael Leao as they prepare for a winger search.

Liverpool May Cash In If Offer Is Right

The Merseyside club might be open to sell the Dutchman if the price is right. The Reds secured the winger from PSV for £35 million in January 2023. The 25-year-old has started to settle, scoring 18 goals in 49 matches this season. So, Reds can expect a good fee especially because he is currently in good goal scoring form.

However, the club is also exploring the possible sale of Luis Diaz. Reportedly, he has attracted interest from Barcelona. It’s unlikely that Arne Slot will part ways with both wingers in the same window. That makes Gakpo’s future something to watch closely.

If Bayern are really serious about signing the winger, they need to move quickly. They have to put a fair bid together. The next couple of weeks could decide whether the player stays at Anfield or moves to the Bundesliga.
