Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca seems uninterested in keeping Ben Chilwell at Stamford Bridge for the upcoming season.
Chelsea has made headlines with a number of signings in this summer transfer window. The club has reportedly spent £120 million on 8 signings alone. Once more, Todd Boehly and BlueCo are having a busy summer transfer window.
But it is equally important for a club to let players leave as much to sign. Enzo Maresca joined the Blues last season as a new manager after replacing Mauricio Pochettino. He has indeed contributed in making the big signings so far and is on course to make some big decisions at the club.

The Italian manager came in following the poor performance of Chelsea last season. The West London club finished 6th in the Premier League standings. Players including Tosin Adarabioyo and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall have arrived at Stamford Bridge this season.
As reported by The Mirror, Maresca has indicated that Ben Chilwell doesn’t fit in at Chelsea. The English player doesn’t fit in his plans for the upcoming season.
Chilwell joined the side back in 2020 in a £50m move. Ever since he has suffered from fitness issues which has affected his stay at Stamford Bridge. He was able to bag only 13 Premier League appearances last season after having problems with his hamstring and knee.
Chelsea manager didn’t mention Ben Chilwell
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca was talking to the press ahead of their pre season game with Wrexham. During the conference, he said:
“In these weeks, we try different situations. We try James inside. I watched his games against, I don’t remember now, he was playing as a midfielder. Malo is trying to do that. Marc can do that and Renato. We will try different situations.”
Maresca talked about his defense line, and how his full backs can play in midfield positions when Chelsea is in possession. However, when mentioning his full backs he didn’t mention Chilwell.
As per The Athletic, Chelsea is seriously considering letting Ben Chilwell depart this summer. They are probably in need of the money they are spending on the 27 year old.
Players like Romelu Lukaku, Malang Sarr, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Trevoh Chalobah, Cesare Casadei, Armando Broja, and David Datro Fofana all seem on their way out of the club. The Blues’ manager doesn’t see them as a part of the future plans for the club.
No future for the former Leicester defender at Stamford Bridge
Chilwell could very well be joining the list of the players leaving the club. Given how Maresca avoided mentioning him at the press meet signifies that his time at Stamford Bridge might very well be over.
Nevertheless, his time with Chelsea was affected by his injuries and arguably Chilwell could never show his full potential. This also led him to fall down the pecking for the left back position for England.
The defender joined the Blues for a big fee and was expected to become one of their key players, but his career failed to take off at Chelsea and now the side is looking to cash in on him.
Chilwell was earlier linked with a move to Manchester United this summer. However, it will be interesting to see if the side will take another defender after just recently signing Leny Yoro. Ben Chilwell future at Chelsea seems over.
Regardless, the Blues will be facing Wrexham to kick start their pre season in the United States.
