Ben Foster explains what is pulling Chelsea behind this season

Former English keeper Ben Foster has reflected on what Chelsea are lacking this season. That issue may pull the Blues behind if not resolved quickly.

The Blues are doing very well under new boss Enzo Maresca. They are on the third position in the Premier League. In addition, they are on top of points table in UEFA Conference League. Unfortunately, they are out of Carabao Cup due to losing against Newcastle United.

There have been lots of positives this season. One of them is that the club is scoring regularly. But on the other hand their defence is lacking which is causing problems. While defence can be sorted by signing top players in the transfer markets, Ben Foster has addressed one issue which cannot be sorted by spending money.

Ben Foster reflects on the issue face by Chelsea at the moment

While speaking on his youtube channel, Ben Foster said that the Blues lack confidence while playing against big teams. It is true as Chelsea have only picked 2 points in 4 games against big clubs this season.

“I just feel they lack a little bit of belief going into these big games. When they play the big boys, I feel they go into it thinking don’t lose. Maybe that’s a progression thing” – Foster addressing Chelsea’s issue.

The Blues have failed to win any of their matches against the top clubs this season. They started the season with a 2-0 loss to Man City. Later they lost against Liverpool by 2-1 before drawing the games against both Man United and Arsenal.

The Blues have been able to score in 3 out of these 4 games but have failed to keep clean sheet in any of those. This again brings us to the point mentioned earlier that their defence needs upgrading. A bit more confidence and maturity on pitch may help Chelsea to get the job done.
