Gokulam Kerala FC has signed Beneston Baretto on a two-year contract. The 23-year-old had hit the back of the net six times in eleven games. As a result, he signed for Gokulam Kerala FC. He wore the jersey of Guardian Angel SC last season and put on a brilliant performance in the Goa Professional League.
During the off-season, Beneston trained hard on the beach and appeared for trials earlier this month. Likewise, the trials tested him. Beneston impressed the Italian boss Vincenzo Alberto Annese with his performance in the midfield. He netted goals in the practice matches too. All through the process, he had a strong belief that he would soon move to a bigger club.
Beneston was a goalkeeper in the initial days representing Dempo U-14, Salgaocar FC and Sporting Club de Goa in the U-18 I-league. While playing for Churchill Brothers FC U-20 he picked up a shoulder injury. On his father’s advice, he moved up the field as a striker.
His skills grew in Inter-Village football representing teams such as Pax of Nagoa, Rossman Cruz and Verna SC. He caught attention playing for UC Telaulim in the First Division. He broke into the Goa Pro League by Vasco SC coach Evan Misquita.
Beneston had tried for a job in Bahrain but had to read as his Visa expired after three months. He returned to the football pitch for one more season for Vasco and the last two at Guardian Angels. He is looking forward to wearing the Indian jersey and is determined to work hard to achieve it. Though there will be strains in securing playing time cause the managers look towards the foreign players but Beneston’s ability in the wings gives him a boost.
